1. Money Heist!
Season 4 of Money Heist just came out and everyone on twitter couldn't stop raving about how it good it is - watch a whole season in a day good, so we decided to start. We're on episode 3 now and it's so addictive! Reminds me a bit of Now You See Me but with a more well thought out plot. The premise is a gang of I think 7 people who are robbing the Spanish money printing press plus the standard hostages and cops. Very fast paced which I love because they explain the plot in flash backs and don't waste time with build up.
2. Bake Off!
Watched a few episodes a couple years ago but didn't get into it because it was quite slow paced. After watching Mel and Noel Fielding on TaskMaster decided to rewatch it and its actually really good now. Probably more so since I've recently gotten into baking so I appreciate it a bit more.
3. Reply 1988
Watched this in February before the Lockdown. Took me ages because it has about 18 episodes which are about 2 hours each! Set in Seoul in the 80s it follows 6 friends from their college days to adulthood. Super heartwarming and had very typical asian family themes. Made me miss my younger days a lot, they really go by fast but when you're a teenager you feel like you can't wait to grow up.
Books
Currently reading Catch 22 but I've been so easily distracted that it's hard for me to pick up a book these days. I used to read so much when I was younger and then completely stopped from 17-24. Trying to get back into it slowly because I used to love getting lost in a good book. This year I want to try and read 12 new books. So far the ones I've read are:
1. Brave New World
Similar themes to 1984, dysoptian future world, dictator/military state, limited freedoms. Can't believe this was written by someone born in 1890. Very well written and quite scary to think how accurate some elements of the book are in the present day. Class divide shaped by genetic engineering, silencing anyone who can't conform to remote islands. This was a really good book and I think much better than 1984.
2. Circe
Greek Mythology meets modern day tragedy. Eva recommended this to me ages ago but only finished it recently. It did annoy me at many points at how hopeless the main character is, but I guess this is accurate to a woman in those times and in that setting. Down with the Patriarchy!
3. The Subtle Knife Amber Spyglass
Read the first book when I was 11 and then didn't know there was a 2nd and 3rd. Got the trilogy for Christmas and couldn't put it down. So good and exactly the type of novel I used to read when I was younger. Still has the same draw as it did all those years ago.
